Food For Thought
The first thing to be emphasized is the importance of a balanced diet. The right balance is vitally important for health both mental and physical, especially when studying hard. There are six basic principles for healthy eating:
1. Eat Fresh Fruits and Vegetables, two of the most important things include in our diet are fresh fruits and vegetables. The advice is that we should be aiming to eat five serving a day, for example, have a banana with breakfast, an apple at lunch and three kinds of vegetable with evening meal.
2. Sugat intake, try to reduce sugar intake. Remember many prosessed foods and ready meals contain sugar. In addition, one thing to be especially careful about is carbonated drinks like lemonade and cola, they are usually packed full of sugar. So avoid carbonated drinks and choose water of fruit juice instead – It’s better for us.
3. Fat intake – be alert of fat intake. Most of fat in our diet comes from meat and dairy products, so try and stick to lean meat, poultry and fish, and make a point of choosing low-fat dairy products, things like yoghurt or skimmed milk and use sunflower oil instead of hard cooking fat.
4. Limit the number of eggs in diet – cholesterol is a bad word. It’s found in meat and dairy products including eggs. So, limit the number of eggs you eat to three or four a week.
5. Salt intake – most of us eat too much salt and it can lead high blood pressure. So, cut down the amount of salt you add to the food. When you are cooking, try to use lemon juice instead as a way of enhancing the flavor.
6. Eat regular meal – don’t be tempted to ski meals. It’s much better for health if we eat regular light meals, three times a day, rather than just one enormous meal.
